Challenges
The existing SPF waterproofing membrane was about 10-15 years old. Overtime, the SPF roof system started to crack and was damaged by pigeons pecking into the foam roof. SPF systems are good roof membranes for insulation because the foam is light weight and when it expands, it holds a high R-value. However, when the system gets damaged, it is extremely difficult to repair. Spray foam roof can be 2-4 inches when applied and identifying the path of the leak is extremely challenging.
- A fluid-applied roofing system can be applied directly to the existing TPO roof surface
- Eliminating the troubles and potential operational impacts of a conventional tear-off and reroof.
Results
Conroy Development could no longer manage the increase leaks that were surfacing on the SPF roof. They contacted HP Roofing Pro to seek their expert advice. With a strong understanding in the SPF application, HP Roofing Pro recommended a fluid-applied roofing system because of its light weight. This system can spray fluid roofing material into the creases and cracks to fill in those areas on the existing SPF system. This roofing system consist of asphalt emulsion embedded in a ply of polyester reinforcement and coated with elastomeric acrylic. This was the ideal application for this roof because the fluid applied material can help level the unevenness of the SPF surface while it is embedded in a soft ply of polyester reinforcement. Furthermore, the roofing system emits over 80% of heat transfer into the building as it has a solar reflective index (SRI) of 106.
